Growing Food Together

One of our favorite things to do in late Spring is to plant our garden.  The kids absolutely love helping choose which veggies/fruits to grow, plant everything, water probably too much, and of course check on everything 3 times a day.  I am a self-admitted non-green-thumber, but even this is something I can handle… and enjoy!

We don’t have a ton of space in full-sunlight, so we take notes from Mel’s Square Foot Gardening.  This year we are growing tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, banana peppers, jalapenos, sweet onions, and strawberries.  The garden should produce through most of the summer, and the kids (okay, and me!) cannot wait for the first fruits to appear.  I can’t tell you how excited all 3 of my kids get when we check the garden in the morning and there’s a bright red tomato or huge cucumber just waiting to be picked.

Simple, easy, cheap, educational, and delicious… perfect!
