Homemade Sidewalk Paint

August 13, 2009

At first I wasn’t sure how “sidewalk paint” would go over, or if it would even work, but I was pleasantly surprised!  The kids loved it, I loved it, and we all agreed, we just didn’t make enough!  What is really great about the sidewalk paint is when it dries, it looks like real paint (but washable w/ water), and doesn’t fade and smear like chalk.  One tip, put it on fairly thick, it’ll look much bolder that way.

Mix equal parts cornstarch and water in liquid measuring cup (easy to pour), & add food coloring.

Great idea! Carson got some of that Crayola side walk spray paint for his birthday. The one bottle they give you lasts about 2 seconds. Could not believe it. Way too expensive to keep up with so we put it away. This is a MUCH cheaper option!

Does the food coloring leave markings on the sidewalk after it’s washed off? I’m worried about lingering designs on my public sidewalk. Thanks for posting this is a WONDERFUL idea.

The food coloring doesn’t leave markings at all! Just go at it with a hose, or let the rain take care of it. No permanent damage! 😉
