Autumn Trees

September 21, 2010

We took a fall drive Sunday and came home with some leaves that had already fallen to use for art projects.  Yesterday we did a fall tree.  First, we took the crunchy leaves and put them in a bowl.

And then we crunched them, winding up with some tiny pieces and some larger pieces.

Next, I drew an outline of a tree trunk on paper.

We put glue (GLUE! The most exciting part of any project lately – for the KIDS!) all around the upper branches, and a bit on the bottom .  We put the crushed leaves onto the paper, and made sure to press down! After doing a bunch, we shook off the excess, and then used small bits of glue to fill in holes where Josh wanted to put more leaves.

Finished project:

It’s hanging on our fridge. Josh was very proud of himself – he could do this all by himself (4 1/2), even though I made sure I was right there the whole time to watch over the glue use. 🙂
